CLAN WA Family Support Volunteer - Mandurah.

"I’m Olivia and I took part in the CLAN WA training in 2006. My main motivation for volunteering with CLAN WA was to work with families that don’t have a supportive network around them. Raising children and looking after a family can be extremely challenging and difficult at times. As my children got older I became aware of how lucky I was to have a supportive network of family and friends to help me through the tricky times. I wanted to be able to provide that same support to other parents. Also, as I was fairly new to Mandurah, I wanted to meet new people and form connections within the Mandurah community. The training was extremely helpful and enjoyable, providing a good balance of theory and practical exercises. It was also a lot of fun and I looked forward to going each week. Aside from the initial training CLAN WA continues to offers many training opportunities throughout the year. The CLAN WA staff members are lovely people and they provide excellent support whenever you need it, as do the other volunteers. I always look forward to the regular volunteer meetings when we have the chance to catch up with each other. Our work with families may be helping them to link up with resources in the local community, working with them on strategies to solve problems or just being there to listen. Seeing the difference our support makes is reward enough in itself, but we also learn a great deal about ourselves in the process."CLAN WA Family Support Volunteer
